The long nights of foal watch is finally over…middle of the night and Eloway lays down…Rajal , Kaitlyn and I walk down to the barn and watched the miracle of life happen. The barn is quiet, there is a unique peaceful silence all around. Rajal entered the stall to take care of the foal. Removed the sack off the foal. Then we waited until the umbilical cord was detached. Rajal took care of cleaning the foals and making sure all checks were done.
20 mins go by and Mowgli RGS got up and looked for some nourishment! Again, we wait! We watch this leggy miracle of life wobbling all over the stall looking his mom to nurse. It took him another 1/2 hr to nurse…ahhh our job is done now. 3 am and we go to bed.
The next morning Mowgli and Eloway were in the indoor arena getting some much need exercise. Eloway is a wonderful mother and took care of her foal. Very protective new mom.
Dr. Megan Cox from Finger Lakes Equine, came and gave Mowgli his check up and his first shots…Anna helped with Mogli. What trip that is! Dr Cox did an exceptional job!
